Here’s an overview of how a concrete mixer with a mechanical hopper typically works:
Loading
The ingredients such as cement, aggregates (sand, gravel), water, and any additives are pre-measured and loaded into the mechanical hopper. The hopper is usually equipped with gates or doors that can be opened and closed to control the flow of materials into the mixing drum.
Mixing
Once the ingredients are loaded into the hopper, the operator activates the mixing process. The hopper’s gates are opened, allowing the materials to flow into the rotating drum of the mixer. Inside the drum, blades or fins mix the ingredients thoroughly as the drum rotates. The mechanical hopper ensures a controlled and consistent feeding of the materials into the drum.
Discharging
After the mixing process is complete, the drum of the concrete mixer is tilted or rotated to pour the mixed concrete. The drum can be maneuvered to different angles to control the pouring direction and speed. Some mixers may have mechanisms such as hydraulic systems or lever-operated tilting mechanisms to facilitate the discharge of the concrete.
